Often considered the Grandfather of Naive Painting and Surrealism, Henri Rousseau was a self taught painter with a unique and charming style. Befriended by famous impressionist, fauvist, and cubist painters, it is hard to say whether they were truly impressed or merely amused by his work. Nonetheless, Rousseau was always confident in his ability, and his work has only grown in popularity since the time of his death.
